Life Therps: Captain Awkward

Life Therps: Captain Awkward

Periodically I want to share what I like to call a "Life Therps" - a blog or a book or a person that's basically like another kind of therps for me. Because not everyone may have the means or the ability or the inclination to see a therapist in person regularly - maybe a Life Therps here will catch your eye. You'll find links to these things in my sidebar as well.

For my first Life Therps, I share a site that is near and dear to my heart. Captain Awkward! I've been reading this site for years. It offers amazing, progressive, tender and humorous advice to people who write in on a number of issues: sticky relationships, family, setting boundaries, friends, etc. I particularly got lured into the site because it offers concrete scripts for dealing with things that feel impossible. How do I say no to plans?  What happens when I fall out of love with my boyfriend? How do I fix this friendship?

This is a site that taught me so much about boundaries and being direct and about being kind to myself. It's a site that reminds me that I am not alone in my anxieties and fears. And it confirms one of my deepest beliefs about therps: while you're learning deep shit about yourself, it's good to get some laughs in.

Thanks for being my internet therps, Captain.
